2020-2021 Evening Schedule
League Coordinator: Kelly Cleveland fmasgal@yahoo.com
Hi Everyone,
Welcome to another year of stick curling. I know things will be slightly different this season because of how our world changed in March 2020. I’m sure we will have a few bumps in the beginning but I know we will work them out and enjoy our season. We have some new faces this season and we will be missing some of our regulars. As per normal I will not be creating the final hard schedule until our 3rd of 4th week of play to give our new players a chance to see if they like stick curling and wish to continue to play the whole season.
On another note, I am currently on my yearlong French course and am in class from 8 am – 3pm Monday to Friday. So if you need a spare or to cancel your game unfortunately I will not be able to make the calls to the opposing team to inform them of the cancellation or play for you as I have done in past seasons (just for this season). My phone ringer is off while I’m in class and I won’t have enough time between classes to make calls. If you need to get a hold of me PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE contact me at either my personal email fmasgal@yahoo.com or via my cell 506-457-8507 (I have voice mail or text me). I’m a night owl and if you need to call after 10pm I will still be up so don’t worry about calling too late. I don’t have access to my work email so if you send it to the @forces.gc.ca account I will not get it!
This year games will be at 1pm for the first draw and the second draw will be at 2:30pm that gives people time between games to get 50/50 tickets and get their beverage of choice and to socialize a bit before the next draw starts to keep with club guidelines for covid-19.
Now how does Covid affect stick curling this season? First off you will need to wear a mask into the club. The tables will be marked for Sheet 1, Sheet 2, Sheet 3 and Sheet 4. You will go to your assigned table based on what the schedule says you’re playing on that day. Place your coat & bags on a chair at that table. Keep your mask on for now unless you are eating or drinking something from the Bar. This year it will be table service no going to the counter to make a purchase. Once you are in the ice shed you do not have to wear your mask while playing (at this time, subject to change based on Base, Provincial or Club changes).
Sticks will be available to use. However assume that they are not sanitized and wipe them down with a wipe that will be available in the ice shed. You will also have to wipe down your rocks before the start of the game. As for the game itself there is only one covid-19 protocol that effects our game. We will still play 6 ends and 6 rocks, one foot must be in the hack when you start to walk/slide out and stay within the two foot line. The rock must be released prior to the hog line do not walk to the line and then release the rock. No sweeping between the hog lines and here is where the change that affects us kicks in. Only the teammate of the person throwing the rock can sweep it once it crosses the other hog line. The opposing team will not be allowed to sweep the rock once it crosses the back T line. Scoring is the same as regular curling. Just a reminder for the returning players and a FYI for the new players you cannot take any rock out of play until the delivery of the 4th rock (the second rock of the team with the hammer that end). Each team is allowed a max of two timeouts per game. You have 90 seconds to meet in the middle of the ice and decide your plan of action. If an extra end is required you may have 1 additional timeout. If a game ends in a tie an extra end is played. The players at the glass end will throw 3 rocks down to the far end then switch places with their teammates at the far end who throw the lase three rocks.
There will be 50/50 this season and I will be starting that for next week. Tickets will be $2.00 each, 3 for $5.00 or 24 for $10.00 (If you fill out a ticket or two of the 24 when I swing by Tuesday after class I will finish filling them out for you as per normal). I know that if I need some help this season I can count on some of you to give me a helping hand this season. I’m hoping our returning players will take the time to assist our new players and make them feel welcome when I’m not there.
My apologies for the length of this email put as I won’t be there for the kick-off of the season I wanted to get everything down. If I forgot anything let me know. Looking forward to a new season.
Kelly
